I have a theory that the player character for this game is a distant relative of Laura's, it was said that Laura and her mom are part of a bloodline that can speak to monsters (I forgot the exact quote) and one of the monsters she can talk to is the Napdragon. The Player Character, who I'll call Rain as she was my first creation, can talk to various animals including Chompy who is of the same species as the Napdragon evident by Butch saying he found Chompy in the mountains where the Napdragon babies live. We don't know Rain's past, her only mother figure being Pam, it seems that Rain is rather young, maybe just thirteen to fifteen which brings up unfortunate implications about what happened to her folks so perhaps the royal family didn't know about Laura's fifth cousin once removed and maybe thought she died in the forest fire that killed her parents (calling it now, they died in a forest fire) When they found out about this strange girl that seems to look like Laura's fifth cousin once removed they investigate and find out that Rain lost her memory and now lives a happy life with Pam. Erik and Ophelia don't want to ruin her now happy life so they tell Pam that when Rain chooses her life they'll meet her. Also, doesn't it seem odd that Rain does stuff like take stuff from the royal treasure chest and help Laura escape the castle and doesn't get much more then a light scolding from Hughes for putting Laura in danger and gets a pardon for taking stuff from the treasure chest? Especially when you're the paladin and should be supporting the kings decsision and not taking stuff from him. Maybe the chest thing can be explained by King Erik knowing you well by then because let's face it it's almost impossible to get the chest before chapter two but it doesn't explain him being ok with Princess Laura and not at least giving a major scolding unless you automatically get a pardon for it due to being someone important. It would've at least made for a cool plot twist as a sort of post game thing like one day after mastering a certain number of lives he writes you a letter and explains that you're Laura's fifth cousin once removed.
